*Fingers probably represents poorly the choice of a career in letters. Whether it be a pen or a key board, it's a distinction drawn between work which requires the nimble fingers and the soft palm, or the hand unified as one against the written word, grasping wholly at rake and hammer in production, not contemplation of work not our own.
